Norwich

Images of Norwich by Sid Frisby
The East Anglian City of Norwich, in the centre of the county of Norfolk in eastern England, grew from four separate Saxon settlements. By the mediaeval period it had grown to be the second city of England. Today it retains its Norman castle, the cathedral founded in the Norman period as well as 32 mediaeval churches. It has the largest intact mediaeval street pattern in Europe. As well as its historical and quaint lanes and architecture, there are many outstanding buildings of later periods from Tudor through to the industrial revolution. Among its notable Victorian buildings is the Roman Catholic Cathedral. Highlights of the twentieth century include the University of East Anglia, the Sainsbury Centre and The Forum. From the bustle of the colourful open air Market Place to the tranquillity of its riverside walks and parks and from the magnificent architecture to the charmingly quaint, Norwich is a unique visual treasure and well worth a visit.
